Whistleblowing channel

Ethical principles and speaking up for any deviations from those principles is a part of responsible business. Every company aims to work in a responsible way towards its employees and stakeholders. Ethical principles outline the common rules according to which everyone should act upon. Ethical principles define also what is acceptable and what is not acceptable in the company, i.e. our way of working. It demonstrates how we live our values every day. Implementing a whistleblowing channel is a way to monitor how well ethical principles are applied in the company.

In Finland, the new legislation to protect whistleblowers has become effective in 2023. The legislation is based on the EU level directive on whistleblower protection. The legislation sets forth requirements to implement and manage whistleblowing channel in the Finnish organisations.

The best alternative to inform about activities that are against the company’s principles is to talk face to face with the closest superior, or with a member of the company’s management. However, it is not always possible to do so. Such a situation could be, for example, when the reporting person feels that the superior is involved in the matter. Sometimes an employee or subcontractor can be afraid that reporting the matter could lead to issues with the employment or cooperation relationship.

Organisation should think ahead about how such situations are handled, and what kind of reporting channel would best serve the company’s employees and stakeholders.

We advise companies to implement a whistleblowing channel and manage reports submitted through the channel. The reports can be financial fraud allegations or other issues contradicting the ethical principles. Our wide experience and network are available for the follow-up of various types of whistleblowing reports.

We help implement a whistleblowing channel solution that complies with regulations and meets your needs.
