Services related to tax audits

We help companies prepare for a tax audit and with questions during the audit.

Our experts have long-standing and versatile experience of tax inspections as a process.

We support companies during the entire inspection:

  • We give advise for writing a company introduction and consider together with the company those things that should be mentioned/emphasised for the tax inspectors. Our team of professional often has experience on hundreds of tax inspections, so we know what kinds of things most easily cause misconceptions for the tax inspectors.
  • We take part in the opening discussion as an assistant of the company, forming a good idea of the matters that are being inspected.
  • We coach the people who discuss matters with the tax inspectors, tell them about tax inspection processes and relevant tax regulation, and give practical advise for discussions.
  • We take part in the interviews organised by the tax inspectors for the company’s representatives, making sure there is an understanding on the matters under discussion.
  • We help interpret questions posed by the tax inspectors, and gather and draft answers.
  • We provide a Help Line service through which the company can instantly receive answers for urgent questions from an agreed-upon person and through which the person speaking with tax inspectors can receive confirmation for their own thoughts if necessary.
  • We take part in the final discussion as an assistant and pose questions to the tax inspectors about their inspection notes and/or the ending process if needed.

We do various things regarding appeals/complaints:

  • Even though the goal is to reach a positive solution as early as possible, it must be evaluated what is being appealed and, especially, what kind of grounds the appeal is based on. We assist our customers in planning the most effective appeal strategy possible.
  • We analyse which matters we disagree on with the Tax administration, evaluate the adequacy of evidence behind our stance and the opportunity to provide additional clarification or evidence e.g. in an oral hearing if needed.
  • We advise and assist in matters regarding the cancellation of debiting.
  • We draft complaint letters and replies to the appeals board and courts with experience from thousands of cases.

Mutual Agreement Procedure (MAP)

In the case of an international tax dispute, PwC’s global Tax Dispute Resolution Practice network (TCDR) helps you find a solution. The network consists of tax experts with deep knowledge of local tax legislation and tax processes, strong cooperation and negotiation skills, excellent contacts with competent authorities, and insight on resolving disputes internationally. Several members of the TCDR network have previously worked as competent authorities in the tax administration of their home country.

Together with our colleagues abroad, members of the TCDR network, we assist you with the MAP process:

  • we take part in planning and drafting the MAP strategy
  • we take part in meetings with competent authorities in different stages of the process
  • we draft applications to start the mutual agreement procedure and possible answers to competent authorities’ requests for additional clarification
  • we actively advance the process, aiming at a positive conclusion in the matter as fast as possible
  • we make sure that decisions made by authorities are properly implemented.
